Breaking: CQ - Former Eupora mayor Henry Ross considering testing Nunnelee for Childers seat

Despite an impressive first fundraising filing and support from state and national Republicans, Republican state Sen. Alan Nunnelee may not be able avoid a primary next year in his effort to knock off Democratic freshman Rep. Travis Childers in Mississippi’s 1st District.

Former Eupora Mayor Henry Ross is seriously considering entering the race and said this week that he intends to make a decision “after the first of the year.”

“We’re still traveling the district and meeting people and talking to people about the race,” Ross said.

Ross, a lawyer and Navy veteranm, was mayor of Eupora from 1997 to 2001. In the George W. Bush administration, he was senior counsel at the Justice Department.

Ross was recently in Washington, D.C., attending a “candidate school” event held by the National Republican Congressional Committee.

If he does decide to challenge Nunnelee, however, he faces an uphill battle.

Breaking news?  Hardly.  He’s had folks going over the district and had a young man at the 1st District Congressional Executive Committee meeting stumping for votes.  Still some more out there considering.  I’m pretty sure there will be a GOP primary.  Don’t see anyone beating Alan Nunnelee though.  He’s our best shot at beating Childress.  Webster County is about the only rural county in the district though that has a strong Republican showing and base.  Davis carried that county in the last general election.  They even have a GOP supervisor in Beat 5 where the dims are normally the strongest in the county.

It was only kinda breaking. News to me and not a lot out there about it yet. I didn’t put it in all caps for that reason. BREAKING would have been too much.

Sometimes a primary is helpful.

I would prefer to avoid a primary when facing an incumbent.

And no offense to Ross, but he doesn’t have a chance; so, I don’t grasp his reason for running.  He has some good ideas, but that’s not enough.  If you can’t get elected, you can’t be effective.  It’s my understanding that he lost re-election as mayor of Eupora so how can he possibly think he has a shot for Congress.  I prefer we save our powder for the right fight.

Update on District 4 Race

Gene Taylor has a NON Politician running against him. This man has been endorsed by Independence Caucus http://www.icaucus.org and icaucus.ning.com. This group has been successful at removing incumbents in the last election. Jason Chaffetz in Utah is an example.

Gene Taylor to vote for Health Care bill if it has Prescription Drug and Generic changes or Anti Trust?

There is a group in Mississippi that will defeat Incumbent Gene Pelosi Taylor. The most conservative District in the United States. We will be getting Gene Taylor out, because he is not a conservative. There is also a group out there http://www.firegenetaylor.com

Gene Taylor’s opponent and successor is Joe Tegerdine http://www.Joetegerdine.com
