Mississippi Legislature Passes Two Bills in First Day of Session

Mississippi Lawmakers began the 2010 legislative session by passing two bills in both houses in the first day. As MPB's Carl Gibson reports, both bills are now already awaiting the signature of Governor Haley Barbour.

The legislature approved a tax incentives package for a German pipe manufacturing company, as well as a bill that would continue the funding of the state's community and junior colleges. House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Percy Watson, of Hattiesburg, says debate over the incentives package was brief.

"These are typical questions that are raised by members when we consider any economic development project. Whether or not it's a loan, or a grant, whether or not it's a donation, a guarantee."

Nowhere to put this question so I’ll put it here.  After years of judicial bribery and everything else that has happened, why in the world are there 2 bills (SB 2589 and SB 2610) that authorize people in the legal community (like DAs, etc) to receive “outside funding”?  Maybe its just me, but haven’t we seen enough corn thrown on the ground and earwigging?  How is this idea NOT a bad idea?  Would appreciate others thoughts on this.

Crime supports crime, greed supports greed; good government has ceased to exist.
