McGlowan to announce for 1st District contest

Republican Angela McGlowan is scheduled to announce her candidacy for Congress next week with a three-stop tour that includes Corinth.

Alcorn County supervisors on Monday granted permission for the McGlowan campaign to use the courthouse steps at noon Feb. 9.

Mcglowan-heres the RINO vote splitter for the MS-1 District Republican Primary.  Her stance on gun control is right in step with Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and Hillary.

This is a problem for me.  My overwhelming support for Nunnelee does not mean I don’t like McGlowan..or at least many of her conservative positions (excluding her poor choice on gun control).  This reminds me of my support for Charlie Ross over Phil Bryant.  Charlie seemed much more of an intelligent, fiscal and moral conservative relative to Phil, which is not to say I didn’t like some of Phil’s positions.  Afterall, he is a republican.

Arrgghh, the rough and tumble primaries...here we go again.

For me and many like me, the issue of the 2nd Amendment is not negotiable and defines the left from the right.  Any infringment upon the 2nd Amendment means that individual has no problem with infringing upon other rights given to the Citizens of the US by the Constitution.

Does she still stand by her statements on the Gallo show about listing your guns on your tax return?  The thing that really turned me off about her was her attitude after she was challanged on the issue.  My only hope is that they do not take the gloves off in the primary, but we all know that it will not happen.  Let’s keep it clean.

She can come across as aloof and condescending.  At least that is my perception when I have watched her on Fox News.  I don’t think the voters in the 1st District will have much patience if they feel as though they are being talked down to during the campaign.  I think that is what happened when the whole thing happened on the Gallo show.  She took issue with Paul for something she said and he gave her the opportunity to clarify.....she did and then the firestorm happened.  Then she tried to say he was wrong...not her.  It really didn’t come across well.

Francisco, it was the gun control thing.  On the Gallo show she was all about registering guns via your 1040 tax return.  I can think of no more heinous way to implement gun registration. None!  And she was for it after some of us called in challenging her on it, even after Gallo tried to help her retract/clarify her position which is a 100% for sure non-starter here in Mississippi.  Today, more than ever, we need strong, unwavering support for our second amendment

Here’s my take for what it’s worth.  I see Henry Ross and Angela McGlowan attacking Alan Nunnelee.  I think the senator takes the high road and let them fight it out over second place.  At least, I hope that’s what happens.

I watched Henry in Corinth today. He has a solid message already that should prevent him from needing to go negative. I think Angela with her DC consultants will attack Nunnelee. I think Nunnelee and Ross know the district too well to be foolish enough to be negative.

Ross has the right ideas, but that won’t be enough (or else, every coffee shop in the 1st district would have a credible candidate).  I have no idea if he’ll go negative or not, but if he gets close to voting today and he’s behind.....sometimes people reconsider.  I also seriously question if he’ll have the money to do much damage even if he did.

McGlowan is a different story.  She’ll be a draw.  Whether she’ll “go negative”, I don’t know.  But she could be a threat whether she does or not.  I suspect her biggest challenge will be putting together a coherent message and staying on message.  She’s a charismatic communicator, but she’s not a very focused communicator.  She’s bad to tell you everything she knows instead of focusing only on the message she’s trying to relay to her audience.  Personally, I don’t think she is ready for a stage this large yet.  As a candidate.  But this is a year where people are as fidgety as they’ve ever been; thus, she could catch on and pull it off.  Odds are still against her, but she does have a shot (I don’t think Ross does).

If either of these 2 pull it off, I’ll support them.  The worst thing we could to ourselves is position ourselves so that we can’t support any of the alternative candidates.  Hopefully, everybody will be adult enough this year for that.

But I believe Nunnelee is the guy and will be. And he’s the best chance against Childers.  So, my primary (pun) hope is that the primary doesn’t weaken him financially nor electorally with the base and/or the general public.  As long as all actions are consistent with that....then we will be ok.  I preferred no primary, but some years, a primay helps build momentum for Nov.  We must accept we will have a primary; so, let’s focus on making it a positive.

Redd, I remember the episode.  I was trying to hurry with my post and not be too long with it.  But I totally agree with you.  There is nothing more wrong than infringing on the 2nd Amendment.  I was trying to point out how she came across after the fact when she was blaming Paul for how he spun it, rather than what she said.  She was very arrogant and condescending toward Paul and some of the callers who took issue with her statement.  I don’t remember her ever clarifying her remarks (i.e. retracting her previous one) to say she supported the 2nd Amendment and that she was against any type of registration and/or taxing of guns via the IRS.  This will haunt her during her campaign.  At some point, she WILL have to deal with it.  The voters, and certainly the other candidates, will make certain it is an issue she can’t run from.  How she handles that will be telling.
