RECONCILIATION MAKES A BAD BILL WORSE

WASHINGTON, DC – After the release of the majority’s reconciliation bill, U.S. Representative Gregg Harper (R–Miss.) said the changes would not tone down the effects of a health care overhaul, but in fact make them worse.

“Democratic leaders in Congress say their bill will reduce the deficit,” said Congressman Gregg Harper. “That’s not true. This flawed legislation will raise taxes over a half-trillion dollars during one of the toughest economic downturns in American history.”

Preliminary analysis of the 153-page reconciliation bill confirms that the modifications will increase taxes by an additional $50 billion, bringing the overall tax boost to $569.2 billion. The reconciliation bill in combination with the Senate-passed measure do not reduce the deficit after excluding the more than $120 billion in revenue generated by the Social Security program and the CLASS Act long-term care entitlement. Since this revenue will eventually be used to pay out benefits to these two programs, the bill does not reduce the deficit in the near-term – or the long term.

The total Medicare cuts in the bill add up to $523 billion in order to fund new entitlements for other Americans. Businesses that cannot afford to provide health coverage for their workers would face a penalty of $2,000 per employee. This tax applies to part-time as well as full-time workers. Additionally, the bill includes an unprecedented extension of the Medicare tax to all non-wage income, raising the top marginal rate on small business owners by 20% and the top tax rate on investment income by 60%, discouraging job creation necessary for economic growth.

“Raising taxes, cutting Medicare and creating a new entitlement program is not health care reform,” added Congressman Harper. “I will continue to work towards meaningful reforms for our health care system that will give employers more variety in making health coverage affordable and available to their employees and their families.”

Small businesses with fewer than 50 full-time employees are exempt from the $2,000 penalty for failure to contribute to employees’ health insurance.  Harper’s statement about part-time employees is misleading.  The first 30 employees are exempt from the penalty (and remember an employer needs 50 full-time employees before being subject to it).  For purposes of determining if an employer to which the penalty applies makes the necessary contribution (which is not the same as providing the full premium payments), part-time employees are counted proportionately based on the number of hours they work.

The great thing about this bill is that it will be cheaper for an individual to pay the fine vs get insurance.  Since the insurance companies cannot deny you for pre existing conditions you can simply go get insurance when you need it (cancer or hip replacement).  Even though you have a pre exiting condition it does not matter because they have to insure you at the same price.  I can not wait.

There is nothing good that will come out of this disaster.  No matter how you interpret it or try to sway it with the pro-bill bullet points, this bill is going to take away from people who have been paying into this system their whole lives and give it to people who haven’t done a damn thing.  This is entitlement at it’s very finest.  Make no mistake, I blame Bush and the Republicans for this just as much as the hope and change idiot whose only real presidential qualification is his teleprompter skill.  If this passes, it is absolutely going to usher in the same mob rule that has destroyed civilized societies throughout history.  The goal is not what’s best for the country, it’s to destory those who cling to the idea of less government, self-reliance, and personal responsibility.  We are the enemies.  The government is going to ensure that the mob is appeased with entitlements and in turn they are going to be able to keep power.  This bill and other power grabs like it are the beginning of the end of this country as we know it.

Even if it passes, and that is not a given, it will take years for regulation to be worked up for it to actually be put into effect. The majority of this will never be put into action. The Dems are simply looking to save face for Obama. This was dead back in August.

I will not conform to the dictates of obamacare. They can put me in jail, take my house, fine me into oblivion and shoot my dog and I will not budge. The powers of congress do not allow a federal take over of any part of our private lives. So to hell with them AND the horse they rode in on.If passed ,it will take years to repeal but it can happen. Conservatives who want to protect and defend the Constitution must stay focused on the big picture of dethroning polosi by unseating childers and to regain a conservative majority. We can and must, for the survival of this Nation, beat liberalism into an embarrassing state of submission.A revolution has began and I hope it’s peaceful. And I don’t use capital letters for any of their names because they don’t deserve the respect due a dog. So there, I vented

Mikej75 Suppose a business has ,for example, 55 employees . Do you think 5 of them will be on the chopping block?
