On Wednesday, the inaugural Mississippi Top 50 event was held at the Old Capitol Inn in Jackson with a sellout crowd of over 300 from around the state.

The event, sponsored by Y'all Politics and SuperTalk Mississippi, was designed to recognize and honor the most influential people in Mississippi. The MSTop50 awardees were honored during the reception, but the highlight of the event were the words from both Senator Cochran and Governor William Winter during the Hall of Fame ceremony sponsored by Capitol Resources and Tower Loan. With over a century of combined public service between them, they modeled statesmanship on probably one of the more appropriate nights to do so . . . after the federal election.

The one time political opponents reminded the crowd including many of the leaders of our state that people can be in the public arena and not think ill of their opponents. It was Governor Winter who brought the house down when he recounted his campaign against Senator Cochran in 1984 for US Senate. Governor Winter stated, "my first mistake was running against someone who I liked. My second mistake in politics was running against someone who everyone liked," referring to Senator Cochran.

More information on the event will be disseminated via social media. To learn more, follow MSTop50 on Twitter or on Facebook.
