Buckle up or pay up: Seat belt bill heads to Governor
The Senate on Thursday sent to Gov. Phil Bryant a measure to require all passengers in a vehicle to wear a seat belt.
Senate Bill 2724, authored by Senate Highways and Transportation Chairman Willie Simmons, makes not wearing a seat belt, regardless of age or location in the car, a misdemeanor, punishable by a $25 ticket. The driver would be responsible for paying the fine.
