Chickasaw merger goes to governor
A bill to consolidate the Houston and Chickasaw County school districts passed Thursday – the final day of the 2017 legislative session.
The proposal was the final bill passed. The bill now goes to Gov. Phil Bryant, who is expected to sign it into law.
Senate Education Chair Gray Tollison, R-Oxford, said the hope is that by the time the new school board is in place by July 1, 2023, that the third school district in Chickasaw County – the Okolona Municipal School District – will be part of the consolidation.
