MSGOP MUNICIPAL CANDIDATE SPOTLIGHT

The Mississippi Republican Party has fielded candidates in more municipalities than ever before this election season, and we are proud to spotlight some of these rising stars leading up to Election Day.

Our first Republican municipal Candidate in the Spotlight is Mark Huelse, candidate for Ward 2 Alderman in Oxford.

Mr. Huelse is a local business manager and co-owner of Something Southern who has lived in Oxford for the past 26 years.  He received his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla and a Master's degree in business administration from Christian Brothers University in Memphis.  He has served on a number of community committees, including the City Ordinance Review Committee and the City of Oxford Planning Commission.

“Oxford is a vibrant, growing community and the growth has to continue to be managed fiscally and responsibly,” Mr. Huelse said. “Most importantly, it has to be managed with a vision and careful preparation, which I’ve gained experience in through the planning processes of the city.”

Mr. Huelse currently sits as chairman of the Oxford Square Alliance, president of the Grand Oaks Homeowners Association and is a member of the Oxford University United Methodist Church Building Committee.

Throughout his campaign, Mr. Huelse has heard from hundreds of residents in Ward 2 and discussed their concerns for their area.

“I am proud to run as a Republican, and look forward to serving Ward 2 and the City of Oxford,” Mr. Huelse noted. “During my campaign walks I have discovered that no matter your political affiliation, we all have the same concerns for the city that we love.”

Mr. Huelse has worked closely with Vision 2037 in the past, and aims to continue working with the 20-year plan that was recently adopted by Oxford.  He believes that having consistency in the sector, as well as his knowledge of its operation is what can set him apart from others.

Our second Republican municipal Candidate in the Spotlight is Pat Hamilton, Ward 2 Alderwoman in Olive Branch.

Mrs. Hamilton is a graduate of Northwest Mississippi Community College and Belhaven University, earning a Bachelor's degree in education.  She taught in Olive Branch Public Schools and is the co-owner / secretary of Hamilton Pharmacy.

The two term Alderwoman has attended every municipal meeting during her tenure and has earned all levels of the Mississippi Municipal League's Certified Official program.

Mrs. Hamilton is a member of the Olive Branch Chamber of Commerce, Daughters of the American Revolution, the National Rifle Association, and the DeSoto County Historical and Genealogical Societies.

Mrs. Hamilton's passion for her constituents, and Olive Branch as a whole, is what drives her desire to continue to seek to serve her community.

"Olive Branch has been the fastest growing City in the U.S. for the past few years," Mrs. Hamilton said.  "I have lived in Olive Branch all of my adult life and I want to be involved in the continued prosperity and positive growth of this City."
