Neshoba's giant house party in high gear

This year is not a political year in Mississippi. So, the political stumping is not nearly as significant as it can be. Yet, this Wednesday and Thursday, people will gather under the pavilion at Founders Square and listen to a series of speeches from Mississippi’s elected leaders.

On Wednesday, Jim Hood and Tate Reeves speak back-to-back. Hood talks at 10:40, Reeves speaks at 10:50. Each will have 10 minutes to share their visions for Mississippi going forward. As pundits begin to look ahead to the 2019 statewide elections, they’re saying Hood and Reeves are considered front-runners in a race to replace Phil Bryant in the governor’s mansion.

The next morning, Gov. Bryant gives his annual Neshoba County Fair address. Because he’s the last political speaker at the fair, his speech might go more than the 10 minutes other politicians get. USM president Dr. Rodney Bennett also speaks on Thursday morning.
