Katrina lawyers disqualified

Former Attorney General Mike Moore advised Hood during settlement negotiations that ended the criminal investigation and later worked with Scruggs on policyholder cases, but he had withdrawn from those cases before Senter's ruling.

Another SKG member firm withdrew from the group in early 2007 and sued Scruggs, saying he was not fairly distributing $26.5 million in legal fees from the State Farm settlement. Scruggs conspired with members of his firm and two others to bribe the judge in that case. He withdrew from SKG, which changed its name, after being indicted in November.

The Rigsbys face their own legal problems. Alabama-based Renfroe is suing the women in federal court in Birmingham for breach of contract. Renfroe maintains they violated employment agreements to keep company records confidential.

Great article by Anita Lee.  This is the first time I have remembered in a MSM press account any mention of former MS AG Mike Moore’s roles in working on both the criminal and civil ends of the same matter.

Judge Senter was very direct about his opion regarding ethical breaches in this case.  Will the MS Bar investigate?

I am sure the Bar will.  The Bar usually investigates stuff like this and does a better job than people realize.  When scandals like this break, many seem to want to hang the Bar, claiming they haven’t moved quickly enough.  Remember the flipside, that being that there needs to be a process in place, and information needs to be vetted - even when someone is accused of something horrible.  That takes time, but it’s what makes us different than a third world country.  I understand people are anxious for punishment, particularly in the case of Scruggs, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you revamp a system.  It might, but not necessarily.  The “system” didn’t cause Scruggs to do this.  I’m rambling a bit, but that’s a thought.

soggy sweat sounds like he/she knows what he’s talking about. hmmm.  a vote count on that would be interesting. what’s needed is continued federal criminal investigation, not a bunch of pansya** bar complaints about earwigging.
