The Ol' Cheap Gas Trick

Despite the storms and tornadoes plaguing Tupelo, Mississippi today, Prentiss County Chancery Clerk Travis Childers is making three stops around the First District today to offer a few lucky motorists some relief at the gas pump.

Childers, the Democratic candidate in Tuesday's special primary runoff election, plans to pump gas at stations in Grenada, Columbus and Tupelo, charging the first fifty drivers at each location just $1.25 a gallon, for up to 10 gallons of gas.

The tactic comes from a Democratic challenger in North Carolina's 8th District, who ran one of the more unique races of 2006. Larry Kissell, who lost by only 329 votes to GOP Rep. Robin Hayes, may be best-remembered for the campaign mascot he brought to events -- a goat he named CAFTA to highlight Hayes's vote in support of the issue. But Kissell also sold gas to voters at $1.22 a gallon, the price when Hayes took office in 1998. The move gave Kissell, who was outspent four-to-one, the kind of media attention he needed, though without the DCCC's help he fell just short of an upset.

Does Childers have a goat?

It sounds like it.  It’s a gimmick and most people will see through it.  Most who don’t have already been fooled by him.

Is he going to check the oil and tire pressure, too?

Raising the tire pressures would certainly help with people’s gas mileage.

I knew Childers would do anything for a vote, but come on.  He will be paying with some of the DCCC’s cash for the gas .  The DCCC’s cash is all over Holly Springs, especially Rust College.  I can’t believe he didn’t do a vote buying, I mean gas pumping, photo op in Holly Springs.  People in north MS are finally seeing up close what the DCCC’s “grassroots” organization really is.

I guess his “urban outreach” fund had some excess cash left in it.  He’s been buying votes the whole election; he’s just trying to do it indirectly now.

I wonder if he’ll clean the windshield?

Posted by nemsblogger on 05-08-2008 at 02:48 PM [link]

Naw, cleaning the windshield would allow people to see his trainwreck too clearly.

Smart move. When people start thinking bout gas prices that get pissed at the GOP. A goat mascot would not fit Mr. Davis but a orangutan would fit him perfect.

I think the standard Democrat jackass mascot fits you liberals just about perfect.

i always thought that buying votes and stuffing ballot boxes with unregistered votes on absentee and affidavit ballots was standard procedure for democrats.

It is, but they whine like a school girl about stuff while they’re robbing the public blind behind the scenes.  The blatant hypocrisy is frustrating.  And this election (maybe it’s because the “Pros” from DC arfe down) is the worst at buying the minority vote, I’ve ever seen.  If Childers wasn’t receiving these purchases, he’d lose by 5-10 pts.

And if a white church put Davis signs on their property, there would be press outrage.  But Childers signs are all over the properties of black churches throughout the district.  Will they lose their tax-exempt status?  ha ha ha, not a chance.

because childers and his pals with the DNC are PAYING those churches and have targted specific “minister’s” in the district as well.  direct cash payments to them also.

You mean they’re making “contributions”, right?  smile
