MS-01 - Greg Davis (R) vs. Travis Childers (D) - West vs. East - Vets vs. Ag
and the last minute desperate tactics . . .
by Alan Lange
With the DCCC and the NRCC dumping millions into a hotly contested race in Mississippi's First District, the battle lines have been drawn. Southaven Mayor Greg Davis, a Republican, will be facing Democrat Travis Childers for the special election runoff.

The decision, though some have tried to obfuscate it, is pretty stark.

On one side, hailing from the east side of the district is Travis Childers (D). He has been supported by Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and the DCCC. He has, in fact, been promised a seat on the House Agriculture Committee should he win. Though his part of the district is generally less populous, Childers has done a good job of casting his net of support over more rural counties in the district and turned out impressive numbers in the special election. Since his primary, he has largely run away from his Obama support, and the Obama campaign pulled the support page on the website posted just one day before the special election. Childers has also repeatedly been questioned about who he would support nationally for president, opting not to answer, but saying only that he's "a Democrat".

On the other side, Southaven Mayor Greg Davis (R) has received support from Haley Barbour, Thad Cochran, Roger Wicker, Vice President Dick Cheney and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio). Davis has been promoted for a seat on the Veterans Affairs Committee, courtesy of Boehner, should he win. Davis has a huge population base on the west side of the district. Desoto County is the most Republican of Republican counties. The conventional wisdom is that Davis will have to really run up the score by 8000+ votes (more than in the last election) in order of offset Childers' assumed strength in the eastern, more rural areas.

And then it got real nasty . . .

On Monday afternoon (5/12), the DCCC was pushing the following ad on the streets of the district.

(Huge hattip to Right of Mississippi)

This ad certainly begs some questions. First, if the DCCC was so proud of the message, why not put it on TV with the $1,000,000 they dropped in the campaign? Second, why only drop this on the street one day before the election? Would it be so that no press would pick up on it?

Candidly, I don't know how this election shakes out. It's a 3 point race that could go either way. However, this is why we do this site . . . to uncover this kind of naked racial bigotry that was unfortunately done, in this case, on Travis Childers' behalf. So far, we have not received any press releases from Childers' campaign, the DCCC or the Mississippi Democratic Party disavowing the message. For someone who has been as closely linked to the now disgraced trial lawyer and admitted felon, Joey Langston, as Childers has been, maybe it can be assumed that the "ends justifies the means" mindset runs through their circle of acquaintances.

This district has massive voter and donor fatigue. This will be the 5th election since last November. The stakes are high. For the RNC, it is a chance to stop the perceived bleeding and show the south is still solid. For the DNC, it's a chance to add fuel to the fire of an unexpected open seat special election win in Louisiana. Both sides will have to get out every vote. Though it will be the election undercard behind the Obama/Clinton primary in West Virginia on Tuesday the 13th, expect it to be the fight of the night.

Here’s the basis of the flyer.  (Article is hosted on Free Republic, but was originally published in the Memphis Commercial Appeal.) Money quote:

Southaven Mayor Greg Davis said Thursday he would be willing to display the Jefferson Davis statue, which is in Downtown Memphis, near City Hall at the end of Northwest Drive.

Horn Lake Mayor Nat Baker also said he would take the statues of Davis and of Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest “in a heartbeat, even if we’d have to find some privately owned land to put them on.”

The statues have been a controversial topic in Memphis, with Shelby County Commissioner Walter Bailey leading a charge to have them removed and three parks in Memphis (Confederate, Jefferson Davis and Forrest) renamed.

The statues of the two men are of some controversy because of the lives they led, which some find offensive.

Davis was the president of the Confederacy during the Civil War.

A slave trader as a civilian, Forrest is considered by many to be one of the greatest strategic minds on the side of the Confederacy during the war. After the war, Forrest was the first grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, but later renounced the organization’s violent ways.

Davis said he isn’t “pushing” for the statue of Davis, despite some news reports saying otherwise.

“All I said was we’d be willing to give the statue a home,” Davis said. “That’s as far as my conversation with (Sons of Confederate Veterans member) Gary Roper went.”

The fact that Forrest co-founded the KKK is only part of the problem; he is also responsible for the Fort Pillow massacre.  He absolutely does not deserve any statues in his honor, and Davis shouldn’t have gone along with the request.  That said, it wasn’t his idea and it isn’t clear to me how much he knew about Forrest at the time.  History books tend to whitewash the guy.

Hey, hello--Davis was willing to accept the Jefferson Davis statue, but the article says nothing about him accepting the Nathan Bedford Forrest statue.  That was Horn Lake, not Southaven.  If he actually said “I’ll take Jefferson Davis but not Nathan Bedford Forrest,” then that indicates that at least he knew Forrest’s history.

The article is hosted on Free Republic does NOT warrant “this kind of naked racial bigotry that was unfortunately done, in this case, on Travis Childers’ behalf.”

Is there other “evidence” ?

Or

Is this just more of the same ol’ dirty politics again and again by the desparate Democrats ?

We can fight yesterday’s wars all day long and argue over the relevance of displaying this statue here or ther but it’s stupid to waste energy doing this kind of crap.

Black people will be pawns for the Dems if this tactic works.  For too long they have been in the back pockets of the Dems.  All the Democratic party has to do is just insinuate that the Republicans hate black people and BAM!  Instant voting bloc in the Dem’s favor!  If anybody is racist and cruel, it’s the Democratic party.  Educated black people should know the difference when someone comes out with a flyer like this playing on their emotions.

Dems play mind games with black people…

Posted by Bo Jangles Jinx on 05-13-2008 at 07:08 AM [link]

Dems are race-baiting with this flyer.  If the media were intellectually honest, they’d be calling it that.  They’re not using this flyer in white areas of the district.  Enough said.

Posted by Howard Roark on 05-13-2008 at 07:12 AM [link]

and one more thing...white people who buy into this KKK crap are stupidly emotional about politics too.

Anybody with a lick of sense ought to know that black people do not need someone to tell them who hates and who doesn’t.  The KKK would only be relevant now if they were hanging people and they aren’t killing/harrassing people anymore.  They aren’t relevant to anyone except themselves.

Black people need to wake up and realize that they need politicians who will promote industrial growth in Mississippi so that more jobs will be available.  Well, that a myriad of other things that may improve the quality of life for the average poor black person.  But telling them that Davis is a member of the KKK?  Sometimes I wonder if Dems want the blacks here in the South to remain poor and largely uneducated so they are prime targets for a vulnerable voting bloc during a tight election!!

Posted by Bo Jangles Jinx on 05-13-2008 at 07:27 AM [link]

Both sides appear to be guilty of race-baiting in this race—the Democrats with this flyer and the Repubs with their silly link of Childers to Rev. Wright.  I hope the Obama-McCain race will transcend race politics, but I’m becoming increasingly pessimistic, especially here in Mississippi where those politics appear to still work so well.

Posted by Huckleberry on 05-13-2008 at 07:35 AM [link]

ok..so Travis and the DCCC have been caught in a major lie.  Davis was talking about the Jefferson Davis statue NOT nathan bedford.  THAT was horn lake mayor.  not southaven mayor.

Travis Childers: Liar

Posted by HernandoMan on 05-13-2008 at 07:42 AM [link]

Why would a Republican want to erect statues honoring Democrats?  That is just silly, since yes, Jefferson Davis was a Democrat and I am going to assume that NBF was as well.  The way to tell if they are Democrats is whether they were in the Klan, which has ALWAYS been primarily a Democrat outfit to the tune of about 98%.  Remember, the Republican Party was FOUNDED to fight slavery and has always stood against the racist policies of Democrats.

And while we are on that topic, why would anyone think that the Dixiecrats became Republicans when it is very easy to check the names of those involved and see of the 52 Dixiecrats only three became Republicans?  Because the normal news outlets say that all the time, Bill Minor is probably the worst at it, but he knows better because he grew up with those Klan guys and still has lunch with them.

Democrats need to quit lying and embrace their racist policies instead of trying to project them onto others.

Huckleberry, two morons running for President can’t transcend anything.  They are textbook examples of morons.

I just don’t understand what Childers can gain by releasing this kind of crap.  Some people just can’t let go and move on.

Posted by ccvz on 05-13-2008 at 08:06 AM [link]

I hate these last minute flyers.  The reason they’re produced as such and not over the airwaves, is b/c of an FCC rule which disallows new allegations w/in a certain amount of time preceding an election. Can’t remember right now, but I think its at least 72 hours. I other words if you come out w/ an outlandish ad, you have to give the opponent time to answer. Unfortunately, both parties employ these tactics all the time.  I think they insult the voters!

Posted by sailorMS on 05-13-2008 at 08:09 AM [link]

Why would Childers let go of what the Democrat Party has always run on?  It works to point at Republicans and say they are racist for trying to erect statues honoring the racist accomplishments of Democrats.  The thing that is startling is that supposed news organizations continue to try to tie the Klan to Republicans when only Democrats are in the Klan.  Just another example of the hatred that is being a Democrat.

Posted by Two Dogs on 05-13-2008 at 08:11 AM [link]

Childers is trying to lie and trick black people into being scared.  There’s nothing worse for this country than this kind of crap.

Posted by Howard Roark on 05-13-2008 at 08:55 AM [link]

...except when Davis tried to lie and trick white people into being scared of Childers by linking him to Rev. Wright.

Posted by Huckleberry on 05-13-2008 at 09:12 AM [link]

In a Democrat “thought” process, an equivalent lies in trying to tie a Republican congressional candidate to a Democrat historical figure that has been dead for over one hundred years AND proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Democrat Presidential candidate has been attending a militant Black church for over twenty years that has an overwhelmingly racist pastor.  Hey, I know that Wright supposedly retired, but watch the videos of “Reverend” Moss, they are ten times worse.  Moss has no idea if any of the apostles are in Heaven, but he knows that gangstas are.  Remember, Otis Moss is the new pastor that supposedly doesn’t hate white people.

THESE videos were taken directly from Trinity’s You Tube site, there are plenty more of the hatred and racism there, too.  They update the site regularly, but we will never, ever see it linked on any “news” site.

It defies logic to try to say that Greg Davis is a racist when he said that a statue of Jefferson Davis could be erected and yet completely ignore what the Democrats were, strived to be, and ultimately are today.

And I agree, Huckleberry, the Democrats are terrifying to anyone that loves this country and the freedoms that were guaranteed in the Constitution.  Democrats, please be honest with your racist views and also the racism and division that you promote.  I know that honesty is not your forte, but it is a good thing.

Huckleberry not even close to the same.  What Wright said was controversial.  This flyer has the letters “KKK” in it.  If you don’t grasp the significance of those letters and the difference b/t the two, then you won’t grasp anything.

Posted by Howard Roark on 05-13-2008 at 09:43 AM [link]

huck

Only Davis was right about Wright.  This is Clinton play book. She said< Hard Working >white people won’t vote for Obama. She is just saying her voters are prejudiced. The Clinton Dems are the real racists. Hillsbills have been willing to start a race war since the beginning and with her demonic husband win the white house and impose the new world order- Sol Alinsky style of government.  Just think Obama has black supremecy, does not believe you have to be born again to be saved from hell, and hillbills have contempt for blacks altogether, and seemingly if it feels good do it, Im ok your ok religion that somehow makes the bible a fairy tale.
Conservatives wont everybody to have the same, equal rights, free will from God. We do not, i repeat do not see color, we see truth.
We believe Muslims do not worship our God, (except bush).

Posted by mccainsinsane on 05-13-2008 at 09:46 AM [link]

Does the flyer ever note that this statue was of Nathan Bedford Forrest, honoring him as a Confederate ware hero, and not as the “Founder of the KKK”?  I’m not going to try to defend Forrest’s status re the KKK, but the man is considered an important and respected historical figure by many (who aren’t racists).  From what I can see of the flyer it appears to keep the actual identity of the statue secret.

Posted by hazel75 on 05-13-2008 at 09:52 AM [link]

Davis didn’t advocate even placing a statue of Forrest in Southaven, hazell75, Mayor Baker of Horn Lake said that he would take one in Horn Lake.  Childers is playing the race card by trying to tie Davis to a long dead Democrat by the words of another person that is also a mayor in Mississippi.

There are only sixteen different disconnects there.

Posted by Two Dogs on 05-13-2008 at 10:01 AM [link]

Thanks, Two Dogs.  There are so many levels of wrong to this situation—however, this is nothing new for the Dems.  Just business as usual.

Posted by hazel75 on 05-13-2008 at 10:11 AM [link]

All of this stuff—Hillary’s “hard-working white people won’t vote for Obama, Davis’s “Childers didn’t denounce someone else’s crazy black preacher,” and this flyer allegedly from the DCCC—is racial politics, and it’s all disgusting. McCain’s “Hamas supports Obama” is in the same ballpark.

Posted by Huckleberry on 05-13-2008 at 10:22 AM [link]

But, of course Huckleberry, ignore the FACT that one of Obama’s Middle East “advisors” resigned last Thursday because he was holding talks with Hamas.  Obama is supported by Hamas, because he has courted their support.  Really, you cannot make these stories up.

Story here.

Posted by Two Dogs on 05-13-2008 at 10:31 AM [link]

we can put an end to this nonsense today with a Davis victory, by the way

Posted by HernandoMan on 05-13-2008 at 10:33 AM [link]

Is there not a Confederate statue in Booneville? Or wherever the county seat of Prentiss co. is? Has Childers ever said we should take it down?

Posted by bkittredge on 05-13-2008 at 10:39 AM [link]

all this will come back up over the summer and on into November no matter the outcome today.

clearly Travis Childer’s hates our heritage and equates southern history as racism and hate.

by the way, who get’s Childers super delegate vote should he win today?

If he commits to Obama, he will lose support...and PROVE once and for all he is as liberal as we know him to be

OR

if he committs to Hillary, he turns his back on his black support.  Which we all know he will do at the drop of a hat.

Posted by HernandoMan on 05-13-2008 at 10:44 AM [link]

Speaking of Hamas, Two dogs, do you know where your Senator is today?  Hanging out w/ Jimmy Carter on the coast.  With the logic you use, does this mean Wicker is supporting Carter’s talks w/ Hamas? I mean, he could’ve built Habitat houses anytime down here...why wait for Carter?

Posted by sailorMS on 05-13-2008 at 10:46 AM [link]

And I’ve done more thinking and would like to amend my last statement—this is par for the course for some Democrats.  But not for others.  And, of course, there are Republicans who wouldn’t blink at stooping to tactics like this.  It’s just kind of gross, though, and I spoke without thinking.  Sincere apologies to anyone I lumped in unfairly.

Posted by hazel75 on 05-13-2008 at 10:50 AM [link]

I am in District 3, I have never voted for Wicker.  Neither has anyone else that is not in 1.  But, I have no idea where he is or who he is with.  If that story is true, he is probably just trying to personally make sure that Carter is not planting IED’s for Hamas.  Are Obama and his former Middle East advisor Robert Malley down there, too?  if so, Wicker will not be able to keep an eye on all three, they will definitely plant Hamas bombs.

And to not consider the fact that the national democrat Party doesn’t influence local Democrats is naive at best.  Yes, I do usually vote for Republicans or abstain from voting in a particular race that is sickening to me.  Much like I will for President this year.  I will be damned if I give support to McCain.  He only advocates a slower slide into slavery than Obama does, but it’s still a move in the wrong direction and I will not support that.

Is “Wagonwheel” running for President this year?  Maybe, he’ll get another vote, that will bring him up to seven.  And I have no idea what he has stood for in the past, but it would be funny to me to tell folks that I voted for “Wagonwheel.”

Posted by Two Dogs on 05-13-2008 at 11:01 AM [link]

Hazel, I tend to agree with some distinct exception.  The Obama thing was not wholly “racial”.  The difference here is that had “Obama” been a white candidate with a pastor that spewed US-hate speech, the same thing would have occured without race being part of the argument.

Here, with the DCCC, they are directly using race-baiting via invoking the KKK.  This is not an individual but the Democratic Party that is utilizing this approach, so while I agree that some take a win-at-all-costs approach, on all sides, I don’t think that has happened on both sides here.

Posted by JDBerry on 05-13-2008 at 11:03 AM [link]

Two Ddogs, your link doesn’t work, but from a news story about the Obama advisor resignation, an Obama spokesman said: “Sen. Obama strongly opposes talking to Hamas, a terrorist group committed to Israel’s destruction. As president, he will work to isolate Hamas and target its resources, and rejects any dialogue until Hamas recognizes Israel, renounces terrorism, and abides by previous agreements.” link . Sounds like Obama’s really “courting that Hamas support,” which is probably the dumbest smear attempt I’ve heard yet.

Posted by Huckleberry on 05-13-2008 at 11:05 AM [link]

Every single one of my links work, I checked them all, no idea to what you are referring.  The fact that Robert Malley was forced out on Thursday is a fact.  The fact that Obama has always backed the Muslims OVER the Jews is a fact.  From “Dreams from my Father,” Obama actually wrote, “Jewish doctors were injecting Black babies with AIDS.” It is a fact, I have the book, have read it, and posted many, many quotes on my blog.  As well as from “The Audacity of Hope.” Obvious point, that book title is from a sermon given by his buddy, Jeremiah Wright.

Here is the truth about Malley’s resignation.

Robert Malley told The Times he had regularly been in contact with Hamas, which controls Gaza but is listed by the US State Department as a terrorist organisation. Such talks, he stressed, were related to his work for a conflict resolution think tank and had no connection with his position on Mr Obama’s Middle East advisory council.

Why was Malley on Obama’s staff?  It was directly because of his work for the “think tank” and his political views.  If you think that Malley didn’t willingly jump under the bus for Obama, you have a serious mental disorder.  How many advisors to Obama’s campaign have had to do that now?  Is it seven or eight, I can’t keep up.  How many American AND Muslim terrorists/family has Obama had to distance himself from?  How many preachers?  How many of his personal friends/family?  Do you admit that there is a pattern?  Why not?

Posted by Two Dogs on 05-13-2008 at 11:20 AM [link]

Childers will probably deny that this pathetic ad that hit the streets even exists.  He is such a liar I am sure he will say he knows nothing about it like he did his Obama endorsement.

Posted by FairMan on 05-13-2008 at 11:29 AM [link]

O.K., Two (or is it 3 now) Dogs, let’s go again. Here’s the full context of your quote from Obama’s book: “What in the hands of Malcolm had been a call for arms, a declaration that we could no longer tolerate the intolerable, came to the very thing Malcolm had sought to root out: one more feeder of fantasy, one more mask of hypocrisy, one more excuse for inaction. Black politicians discovered that white politicians have known… that race baiting could make up for a host of limitations. Younger leaders eager to make a name for themselves, upped up the ante peddling conspiracy theories all over town--the Koreans were funding the Klan, Jewish doctors were injecting black babies with the AIDS virus. It was as shortcut for fame, if not always for fortune.... Just talk. Yet what concerned me wasn’t just the damage loose talk caused efforts in coalition building, or the emotional pain it caused others. It was the distance between our talk and action, the effect ... it was having on us as individuals and as a people. That gap corrupted both language and thought… it eventually eroded our ability to hold either.” So, in those early writings, Obama was saying EXACTLY the opposite of what you imply—he was saying that black nationalism and racial politics were damaging, ineffective, and corrupting. Do you want to try again?

Posted by Huckleberry on 05-13-2008 at 11:45 AM [link]

so Greg Davis was open to the idea of the statue of Jefferson Davis’ being moved to Southaven…

Jefferson Davis....  the SAME Jefferson Davis that was a US Senator… whose desk is now OCCUPIED by Senator Thad Cochran?

So, Travis, are you calling Thad Cochran a racist also?

Posted by HernandoMan on 05-13-2008 at 11:47 AM [link]

No idea what that “three” means.

Do not forget that the rest of the title is “A Story of Race and Inheritance.” He was advocating black nationalism throughout, did you read the book?  Advocating division and racism was his job!!!!!  That is what he got paid to do.  And the whole book advocates that as well.  He didn’t even acknowledge his white mother and her family that raised him until after she was dead and then only in the liner notes of the later editions just to soften the blow of his hatred.  The entire book was about him trying to find his black roots of a father that abandoned him at the age of two.  How many things must y’all ignore before the truth reaches up to that blood deprived skull?

Posted by Two Dogs on 05-13-2008 at 11:54 AM [link]

CAN you read the book? Admit it, Two Dogs, you just indulged in the worst kind of smear, pulling some random 8-word quote from a book and implying that it means exactly the opposite of its true intent. Your deceitfulness falls somewhere on the spectrum of swift-boating to outright bigotry.

Posted by Huckleberry on 05-13-2008 at 12:08 PM [link]

Any reports on turnout?

Posted by mrpfan on 05-13-2008 at 12:21 PM [link]

Uh, the Swiftboat allegations were proven true by hundreds of independent sources, including Kerry’s entire chain of command, but ONE person who was a “paid advisor” to the Kerry campaign disputed them.  And Kerry has STILL not signed his Form 180 except to release records to the Boston Globe, so we may never know the extent of the truth behind the Swiftboat story.  Yeah, that is exactly what I did.  I am not really sure how I am bigoted by calling Obama a racist, but that’s your opinion.  Oh, but in MY attempt to bolster your point, I am considered Caucasian, but my fiancee is not.  HERE‘s a photo and a recipe for lasagna, I guess that I hate Italians too.

However, your deceitfulness falls somewhere along the lines of, oh I don’t know, this post?  Or maybe the documents forged by Democrats and given to CBS?

I read the book with an open mind (try it sometime, it really doesn’t hurt you) researching the candidates, Obama turns this little guy’s stomach with all of his hatred, which is right out in front, too.  Most people can see it, but some refuse to.

Sorry, I’m out of here, I am getting bitter.  Y’all know where to find me, sulking in the corner because I got my feelings hurt.

Posted by Two Dogs on 05-13-2008 at 12:22 PM [link]

Guys, don’t let Huck bait you into the weeds on this subject.  This was a ploy to racially divide the citizens of this district and it was paid for by the DCCC.  Same group that is now running the Childers campaign.  Same group that has been giving money to “community preachers” and so forth.  This is gutter politics at its worst.

Posted by Howard Roark on 05-13-2008 at 01:56 PM [link]

Oh, wait, this is absolutely spun at MSNBC.  Wonder which way?  Good lord, wonder why the media is trailing even the Congress in opinion polling?

Here.

Posted by Two Dogs on 05-13-2008 at 02:29 PM [link]

PMSNBC and the other media is spinning that “Davis is trying to tie Childers to Obama”.

OBAMA DID THAT HIMSELF.  He interjected himself into Childers campaign, and Childers accepted the help.  If I am Greg Davis, I would tie Childers to Obama, too.

However, the DCCC tying Davis to the KKK in the waning hours of the campaign through a street flyer has absolutely nothing to do with the campaign.

Posted by Alan on 05-13-2008 at 02:42 PM [link]

It’s time for Y’all Politics to take the franchise nationwide, too, someone has to do the job correctly, Alan.  Man, I hate when people try to twist our state into something that it isn’t.  Did you read those comments on MSNBC?

According to the NYTimes, the charge in the flyer is true.  Here is a quote from an August 5th, 2005 story on the Memphis controversy:

“There have been other proposals for how the handle the Forrest issue, like giving generic names to the parks and adding monuments of black heroes. Last week, the mayor of Southaven, Miss., a fast-growing city where many white Memphians have moved over the years, said he would be happy to have the Forrest equestrian statue in Southaven.”

It’s a tough piece, but techically accurate.  Suck it up, folks.  Politics ain’t beanbag.

Here is the article robot is referencing.

The comment about Davis was a blurb at the very end of the article with no “quote” or anything that substantiates the comment other than it was stated “last week.” Which would likely tie to some comment that Davis stated where he would only take the Jefferson Davis statue, per many other “quotes” from that time period.

SOUTHAVEN --- The mayor of Southaven says his town will take the statue of Jefferson Davis if Memphis decides to rid itself of three Confederate parks. Davis was the first --- and last --- president of the Confederacy. One of the parks in Memphis is named for him. A proposal to change the names of the three parks in downtown Memphis has been sent to the City Council. The Sons of Confederate Veterans says it will fight the move. The NY Times mis-stated something and the DCCC is using that to race-bait.  It was very easy to look at what was stated, because in only one location, the NY Times was there a comment that Davis referenced the Forrest statue, and it was incorrect.

QUESTIONS:
Any USM alums posting? Who was Col. Nat named after? Y’all had to get rid of him.
What Jeff Davis was Jeff Davis County named after?

When the school was renamed Mississippi Southern College in 1940 a name change for the athletic teams was fitting. In April 1940, the student body voted to name the teams Confederates. The teams were called the Confederates during fall 1940 and spring 1941. In September 1941, Confederates was dropped, and the teams were named Southerners. Several years later, in 1953, General Nat (for Nathan Bedford Forrest) was approved as the Southerners’ mascot. The first General Nat was Archie Hughes, and Nat’s horse was named Son of Dixie.

Jeff Davis counties in GA and TX and Jefferson Davis County in MS were all named after MS Senator and Confederate President Jefferson Davis.

If elected, will Con. Childers be for changing the name of Jeff Davis County? Will, if elected, Con. Childers and Pres. Obama pass federal law to take Conferate monuments down at Shiloh Battlefield? Is there a tarp big enough to cover Stone Mountain Ga. Will Billy McCoy support a bill to change the name of the Robert E. Building?
Personally, I wish USM still had Gen. Nat.
My point is when the Dems take over there is more to look forward to than queer marriages, dead babies and losing your gun.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with Confederate monuments and attaching Davis’ name to counties.  However, I don’t see any reason why there should be an argument for Forrest.  He was a slave trader, the commanding officer during the Fort Pillow Massacre, and, at the very least, an honorary grand wizard and sympathizer of the KKK.  There are much more deserving Civil War figures than him.

lbirdsong, maybe I don’t understand your comment.  Why would they take down memorials that are in honor of Democrats?  Jefferson Davis was a Democrat.

Also, Billy McCoy is a very partisan, dumb as a barrel of hair, Democrat, so I doubt that he would change the name of the Walter Sillers building, you know, Walter Sillers, who was not only a Democrat, but also a Dixiecrat and fell back in to the Democrat fold after they disbanded.  By the way, how long has Billy McCoy been involved in politics?

There’s the Ross Barnett Reservoir, of course, Barnett tried to keep James Meredith out of Ole Miss, at the exact same time that a former Dixiecrat, John Oliver Emmerich, who became a Republican (one of only three that actually switched parties) was trying to get him in, then there’s the Gartin Supreme Court building, Gartin was another racist Democrat.

The list is endless of the Democrats that are tied with the Klan and the racism that was institutionalized in our state.  Racists have NEVER been affiliated with Republicans ever in our state, but hey, what the Hell, let’s just say Republicans are the racist party and be done with it.  Even though every single FACT says otherwise.

When does Democratic Congressman and Superdelegate Travis Childers publicly endorse Democrat nominee-apparent Barack Obama?  And when does the main stream media ask Congressman Travis Childers who he supports in November 2008?  December, possibly?

according to hardball, obama has ms in play

I’ll bet a dollar to a doughnut that Mississippi isn’t in play.

What say ye, Jamie/Musgo/Pablo?

And my second question, Jamie, is why hasn’t Congressman Travis, Superdelegate Supremo, endorsed the Democratic nominee, Barack Hussein Obama yet?  What’s he waiting on?

Question three: When is Ronnie Musgrove going to endorse Senator Barack Hussein Obama for President?  Isn’t that the rule in the Democratic party?  Democrats must endorse Democrats.

Where’s Sid Salter on this issue?  Where’s David Hampton?

Silent.  Letting them whistle past the grave yard.

Those two boys, Musgrove and Childers, don’t want to touch the issue of endorsements...nope, no way.

And the media will let ‘em slide.

Maybe they will simply utilize Gene Taylor’s excuse and do nothing.

How does the Mississippi Democratic party allow elected Congressmen and US Senate nominees pass on publicly endorsing a candidate for U.S. President?  How does the press corps in Mississippi allow two U.S. Congressmen say they’re for “nobody”?

If that were a Republican and those same Congressmen avoided the answer to this question, it would be all over the news every day until they said who they were for.

Our country, led by the fourth estate, in all their stupidity and obvious subjectivity as well as their double standards, are leading us into oblivion.

Don’t expect the Daily Journal to push the issue.  This paper all but held a Childers victory celebration.  I even heard that they refused to run a paid Davis campaign ad in the Sunday paper before the election (because of “no space” - HA).

So, don’t expect them to ask the tough Qs.  The tv station (and there are 3 channels but only one station in Tupelo) isn’t aggressive like this.  That pretty much covers media in the district outside of what coverage comes from Memphis and sometimes the Columbus tv station.

Childers gets a pass.  Musgrove has a better chance of getting hit b/c:
1) Supertalk will be able to push him more (for ex. JT, Dave never got engaged in the 1D race).  And more opportunities.
2) There are Jackson and Coast media outlets among others.  So, greater odds that somebody will push.
3) Pubs are coming to the realization that the Dems are truly attempting to take over and not just pick off a congressional seat.  So, will focus better and unite more for the Senate race than was done for the House race.

I hate all this social engineering.  Racism is over. Obama did not stop it, it’s been over. Al and Jesse should go out of business. This is still America and if a black man wants to smoke a cigarette and hate whitey at the same time that is his business. If a white mother believes sodomy should not be forced on her children, it is America, for now, she can speak out.  If a hispanic is an illegal alien he is breaking the law and he should go to jail like the rest of us. Christians who believe Islam is a false religion, it’s their right, we are a Christian nation.  But when Dems let a muslim pray to mohammed on the senate floor, and they did, they are traitors to our country and I can say that.
