Greg Davis running hypocritical campaign to distract from tax-raising record

Travis Childers, the Democratic candidate for Congress in Mississippi’s 1st Congressional District, released the following statement today, calling on Greg Davis to stop his hypocritical attacks:

“The only pastors that should be relevant in this race are my own pastor and the countless church leaders across North Mississippi that are the backbone of our communities.

“Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s comments, especially those attacking America, are outrageous and are totally unacceptable. As I have said previously, I strongly disagree with the tone and content of Reverend Wright’s statements.

“But this race is not about a senator from Illinois or a pastor from Chicago. It’s about the people of Mississippi. It’s about right and wrong. And the way Greg Davis is running his campaign is wrong.

“Greg Davis’ latest attack is hypocritical – attacking me for not condemning Rev. Wright – when it appears Davis has not released a statement and has nothing on his Web site condemning Reverend Wright himself.

“This is a pattern with Greg Davis. He attacks Glenn McCullough on the waste of tax money, but Davis wasted $27,000 in taxpayer funds on a new car for himself. He has attacked me on taxes, but he is one of the biggest tax-raising politicians in North Mississippi.

“Greg Davis has also stayed silent on what matters to our community – jobs. Greg Davis has been silent on unfair trade deals that would hurt Mississippi. Today, I took a stand a signed a ‘No New Trade Deals’ pledge. Greg Davis is taking money from Big Oil and he refused to join me in pledging not to take money from Big Drug Companies.

“It is clear Greg Davis will be a vote in Congress for more waste, more taxes and more lost jobs. It is now clear that Greg Davis is the biggest hypocrite in Mississippi politics.”

no new trade deals.  That’s got to be dishearting to Mississippi companies that want to sell products outside the state.  Maybe he should have signed a no new real estate deals pledge instead.

Or maybe he meant no new trade deals for desoto since it’s not part of mississippi.  couldnt resist that one!

Wait, is Childers running for President?  Because that treaty negotiation thing is solely in the power of the executive branch of government.  Dang, Childers doesn’t even know what he is running for.  Typical Democrat moron.  And a lying one at that, since the car that Davis has belongs to the city, you know, kinda like every other mayor’s car.

Sadly, Travis Childers won’t be an independent Democrat like Gene Taylor or better yet like Sonny Montgomery.  He never supported Sens. Lott and Cochran or even Gov. Barbour in their races.  He will be a vote for Pelosi more often than a vote with Taylor.  He gave money to John Kerry and I saw the email from Barack Obama endorsing him and encouraging others to make calls on his behalf.  Yuo cannot run from that no matter how badly you dislike Greg Davis.

Has Childers promised to not take money from Trial Lawyers, Inc.?  My guess is his buddy Langston probably has more assets in MS-1 than Chevron.

Who would want to support Sen. Dickie Twin, Sen. Pork and Gov. Boss Hog. Trial lawyer money spends the same as any money the last time I checked.

Yep, to buy judges.

I don’t mean to change the subject but what’s the deal with that banker in Jackson that is missing?

Posted by ElPabloPolitico on 04-29-2008 at 06:45 PM [link]

whats worse? taking $ from oil company (which i cant seem to find that davis did according to http://www.fec.gov)

or having ones campiagn funded by the same group that ran politcal commercials showing flag draped coffins of our soliders as the DCCC and Travis Childers are doing?

and anyone that is allowed to think for themselves (which rules out every democrat) can clearly see through childers lies.

he and his ilk now damn well the obama/wright endorsement is killing his campaign.

childers is blasting davis for increeasing spending?  well cops and firemen dont work for free in desoto county, travis.  being the 4th largest city in Mississippi comes with costs.  and davis has been able to keep those cost very low to the tax payers.

childers, having no experience whatsoever that enables him to see the big picture, clearly simply can not grasp anything outside of regionalism smear politics.

shake em up travis! and shake yourself

I really don’t know the finance laws for our state, but oil companies have been banned from donating to national campaigns for over one hundred years.  It is patently illegal.  I do not know why, but I am sure it is because of a bunch of whiney cry-babies. That’s why I laugh everytime that Obama says that he will not accept oil money, it’s because no one can for a national election, senators or representatives included.

I thought that everyone knew that.

Childers campaign is in trouble.  He is scrambling all over the place. Is he gonna denounce his own $2000 voluntary donation to John Kerry as well?  This race has finally became a national race and that is not good for Democrat.  Conservatives are awakening, finally, to who Childers is and who he would be if he went to DC.  Somebody will need to send Obama a thank you card for his help.

This is totally unreal, Tongue Twistin Travis is what I call him now.  I can’t believe that he lied straight to the camera and then tried to twist his way out of a direct question about obama.

See the Video Here

The video has had more than 7000 views in less than 24 hours since I posted it.

Wow.  He flat denied being endorsed by Obama then wouldn’t say whether he would accept an endorsement if one was indeed made.  Why wouldn’t a Democrat accept or admit an endorsement from another Democrat?  Or if he doesn’t want the endorsement simply say so?  I’m confused.

Nobody is buying this BS from Travis. Nobody. He can’t distance himself from Obama at this point, no more than Obama can distance himself from Rev. Wright.  He just keeps digging himself a hole.  Travis is bleeding big time.  Davis definitely has the momentum.

From a New York Times article a week ago

Interviews here offer evidence that Mr. Childers’s approach may be catching on with voters who described themselves as Republicans and independents.

“Something just stands out about him,” said Marty Sullivan, manager of a real estate management firm. “It’s his openness. He doesn’t dodge any questions.

Posted by JDBerry on 04-30-2008 at 11:11 AM [link]

if you will recall the candidate forum at ole miss earlier this month...the question was posed to travis childers from the editor of the desoto appeal about who travis would be supporting for president.  childers REFUSED to even answer that question.  ALSO, childers “could not remember” who he voted for for president in 2000 OR 2004.

whatcha hiding, Travis? whatcha running from, Travis?

shake em up, Travis!!

Posted by HernandoMan on 04-30-2008 at 12:11 PM [link]

If he cannot remember who he voted for in any election since his eligibility, then he is not qualified to hold any public office, either he is incompetent or already senile.  Did he really say that he could not remember who he voted for is 2000 and 2004?

Posted by Two Dogs on 04-30-2008 at 12:36 PM [link]

I hate to discount a comment b/c of somebody’s job, but Childers has support in the realty business b/c of personal connections.  Maybe this quoted Sullivan isn’t one of ‘em, but unless proven otherwise, I’ll assume that it’s no coincidence that the NYT quoted a realtor.  Therefore it’s a useless anecdote about the general election trend.

Plus, anecdotes can’t prove trends anyway as anybody who has had stats knows.

two dogs, YES.  he exact quote was “i dont remember who I voted for in 2000 and in 2004 it sure wasnt Bush”

i am surprised the video of this isnt floating around the web somewhere.

i can not believe regionialism is being used by travis childers to trump ability and core values.

Posted by HernandoMan on 04-30-2008 at 12:56 PM [link]

So he either voted for Gore in 2000 or one of the dope smoking candidates, then in 2004, it was Kerry or one of the dope smoking candidates.  Does Childers smoke dope?  You know, so we can narrow it down.

Posted by Two Dogs on 04-30-2008 at 01:04 PM [link]

well, clearly he supported Kerry in 2004 (he did give him $2,000 and was adament about NOT voting for Bush) and if he cant remember 2000, then he’s simply not smart or he’s lying.  his call.  i’ll buy either excuse.

Watch and learn folks, you are now getting a political education in how not to handle a campaign issue.  This smells of the ill fated David Landrum campaign. Pick one side or the other, don’t make things up, and be clear.

Childers’ campaign is imploding.  He is making his liberal base mad with his Obama endorsement denial.  Everyone knows Childers is lying including them.  Add on the fact conservatives are finally fired up and you have a disaster for Travis.
