Democrat Travis Childers says he'll vote no on health care

Washington, DC – Congressman Travis Childers (MS-01) released the following statement regarding his upcoming vote on the House health care reform bill, H.R. 3962:

“Today, millions of hard-working Americans are suffering from soaring premiums that are increasing seven times faster than wages. Our country needs health care reform, and there is no one who wants to see the implementation of successful reform and lower premiums for individuals and families more than I do.

“However, for several reasons, I will vote ‘no’ on the House’s health care reform bill, H.R. 3962.

“First and foremost, I cannot vote for legislation with this big of a price tag in today’s economic climate. I would also like to see legislation that contains stronger language to prohibit federal funding for abortion and provides equal access to care for individuals in rural communities. My concerns in these areas have not been sufficiently addressed by this legislation.

“Health care reform legislation in the House has come incredibly far from where it was when we began this discussion. But we need to get this legislation right, not just get it fast.

“Potential reform is still a work in progress, and the House bill is only one of many steps that lie ahead before Congress votes on final legislation. The Senate has yet to act on its bill and we don’t know what the conference report – the final bill – will ultimately look like. It must be a commonsense plan that reflects Mississippi values.”

Nov 3, 2009: Republicans win solidly in very-Democratic New Jersey and by a landslide in swing state Virginia.  Both states previously governed by Democrats.

Nov 4, 2009: Childers suddenly notices the Democrat’s health bill is a bad idea and promises to vote against it.

Obviously just a coincidence.

More campaign fodder for Nunnelee.  Keep it coming, Travis. Please!

Dang Travis, at least do it like Harry Ried and make the statement before the landslide defeat.  Obama won NJ by 15 last year and VA by 6.  These are huge swings.  Ried knew there would be big losses and made his statement yesterday before the results came in.

Translation . . . “Pelosi told me they had the votes without me.”

While this reveals so much about Childers, it also reveals that he’s going to fight like hell for his re-election.  He will cite this as proof of his independence.  Just as he did with the bailout last fall (despite voting for fannie mae/freddie mac bailout, UAW bailout, etc.).

Most of us see it for what it is.  What we have to try and look at is what the avg. non-engaged voter is going to think about it roughly a year from now.

Childers is, in some ways, the equivalent of an old-fashioned tease.  And that gets old.  Once you figure it out.

This is such a predictable response from a moderate, half-pregnant, unprincipled person that gets into an elected office.

If only they would have tweaked this monster just a tad, then Childers would have voted for it. Merely putz around the edges just a bit, then this would have been a fine bill in the eyes of Childers.

Mushy….gushy… lacking in core principals…and seldom, if ever use of the words “freedom” and “liberty” are the mark of the ignorant wannabe.

I do wonder though. If Childers is so concerned about all of those “hard working families”, do you suppose he’d sponsor a bill that would limit real estate agents commissions to 2%, rather than the immoral 5-7% they currently receive?

This anti-American, vulgar piece of malfeasance can be reviewed at:
