Ex-ag official pleads guilty for illegal contact with his old employees

Nick Walters' guilty plea in U.S. District Court in Jackson was announced Tuesday. The felony charges from a three-count indictment were dismissed.

"The misdemeanor does not allege any willful violation of the law," Walters' attorney, Cliff Johnson, said.

No date is set for Walters' sentencing, but the government is recommending that he be placed on probation and serve no jail time.

Walters also will not be fined if the government's recommendation is followed, according to Johnson.

Walters admitted discussing with the agency's employees a matter that had been pending when he was Rural Development state director.

This seems rather strange, like either a vendetta by someone or, there is another story behind what they’re telling.  As crimes go, this seems like parking too long by a meter.
