A bill that would give Mississippi's attorney general the authority to use wiretapping to crack down on white-collar crime was passed today by the House.
Senate Bill 2264 did not originallly include that language, but House lawmakers amended it. Attorney General Jim Hood has asked for authority to use wiretaps.
The bill is likely headed to negotiations between House and Senate leaders.
"It's puzzling to me why he does not have this crime-fighting tool at his disposal," said House Judiciary A Committee Chairman Ed Blackmon, D-Canton.
A House bill that would have granted Hood wiretapping abilities died in committee earlier this session. Republicans said they feared it would give overreaching authority to him.

ok---if Hood won’t go after anyone who is “family” and its pretty clear who all is in the “family”, then I wonder who he wants to use the wiretap on? For someone who wants to be a DA instead of an AG, what’s up? Hope the Senate kills this.
