COCHRAN APPLAUDS R.D. JAMES NOMINATION TO LEAD ARMY CORPS

Announced by President on Tuesday, Nomination Promptly Sent to Senate for Consideration

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) today said he supports President Trump’s choice of R.D. James of Missouri, a long-time member of the Mississippi River Commission, to lead the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

“It has been a pleasure to work with R.D. James over the years. He has been a friend to Mississippi in terms of supporting projects and policies to improve navigation and flood control in our state. I believe he has the experience and knowledge to take on the challenges facing the Army Corps of Engineers and the millions of Americans who rely on its success. President Trump has made a solid choice in nominating Mr. James,” Cochran said.

President Trump nominated James on Tuesday and the nomination was forwarded to the Senate on Thursday afternoon. The Senate Committee on Armed Services and the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works will process the James nomination.

Cochran is familiar with James through the Senator’s chairmanship of the Senate Appropriations Committee and his senior position on the appropriations subcommittee that funds the Army Corps of Engineers.

Earlier this year, Cochran and Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) recommended James to be the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works. The Mississippi Levee Board and the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee Board also support this appointment.
