U.S. News - Haley Barbour Gets Some Credit for Virginia, New Jersey Wins

Credit Mississippi Governor and former Republican Party National Chairman Haley Barbour and the Republican Governors Association he runs for helping push Republicans into the victory column in the two gubernatorial races this year, say several GOP and conservative insiders. "This was a huge victory for Haley and just the start of what could be a very big year next year," said an ally and GOP lobbyist. The RGA was heavily involved in the races, especially in New Jersey, as it tested out an election plan that will go into full force next year when Democrats will be trying to hold on to 22 seats, compared with 16 for the Republicans. Another Republican Party official said that part of Barbour's success came from winning over so-called Reagan Democrats, the moderates who are concerned about the economy and jobs. "The New Jersey victory is attributable to two things: Haley Barbour and a re-emergence of Reagan Democrats who 'cannot take it any more' on taxes, affordability," added another Republican official.

It's unclear whether the successes will convince Barbour to run for president in 2012, but a lot of his fans in Washington hope he'll consider a bid.

It is interesting to see that people have recognized and acknowledged this and its not surprising that Haley was able to help with these two races.  His political savvy is so exceptional that I sort of hope he doesn’t get involved in running himself, at least until its certain that his electability is feasible.  I think he can do more for the country by helping get back the senate, the house, the presidency and the nation, by working in the rear (not necessarily out of sight) to see that we get good candidates to run for congress and the presidency and getting them elected.
To do this job may require that he resign his job as governor and, after all, helping the entire nation would qualify as an unexpected higher calling for that moment.

I think ship island phrased it exactly right about the governor’s clout and ability to get things done. How nice that he is finally being recognized, and given credit for some of his good works.

Don’t forget Haley left the residents of the Gulf Coast in the dust when he diverted $600M of Federal Katrina Housing money to the Port of Gulfport.  Haley is a scumbag and Mississippi will be better off with him on a farm in Virginia where he intends to retire.

Everyone should be grateful for Haley’s leadership through the Katrina recovery. All one needs to do is look across the border into Louisiana and see how they handled the situation. But that’s the mind-set of the Dem’s. Quit being a victim and get off your butt and do something for yourself.

Ox, naturally you and I could never agree.  However, Haley Barbour continues to do what is best for the state and the nation, in the long term and the short term and not what is good for a few.

OX would only be happy if the $600m would have been allocated over to the Scruggs Nation for them to allocate to the public as they saw fit..... Didn’t Scruggs put into be the Katrina Czar????  In fact he decided to back a candidate against George Dale because he wouldn’t put him in control of the $$$$$$$.
