House Resolution 7 (HR 7), authored by Rep. Karriem would require any bill, amendment, referendum, or resolution change to a public offense law to have a racial and ethnic impact statement attached to it. The bill remains alive in the House and has been referred to the Rules Committee.
- BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That a new House Rule No. 104C is created to read as follows:
- Prior to debate on the floor of either house of Legislature, a racial and ethnic impact statement shall be attached to any bill, concurrent resolution, or amendment which proposes a change in the law which creates a public offense, significantly changes an existing public offense or the penalty for an existing offense, or changes existing sentencing, parole, or probation procedures.
