The Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, chaired by Rep. Gregg Harper (R-MS) announced a hearing for Wednesday, February 14, at 10:15 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Examining the Impact of Health Care Consolidation.”
#SubOversight will examine consolidation trends in the health care sector, the reasons behind those trends, and the effects they have on the cost and quality of care. In 2016, U.S health care spending was estimated to be about $3.3 trillion, and the overall share of gross domestic product (GDP) related to health care spending was 17.9 percent, up from 17.7 percent in 2015.
“Several factors influence health care spending,” said #SubOversight Chairman Harper. “Next week we’ll have an opportunity to take a deeper dive into the various types of consolidation in the health care industry. It’s an important piece of the puzzle as we explore broader issues like the drug supply chain and the cost of medications.”
The Majority Memorandum, witness list, and witness testimony for the hearing will be available here as they are posted.
