Howard Sherman, of Lauderdale County, will face state Rep. David Baria in a June 26 runoff in Mississippi’s Democratic primary for U.S. Senate.
Sherman, a venture capitalist, and his wife, actress Sela Ward, put on a watch party Tuesday night at Weidmann’s restaurant in downtown Meridian. The group cheered every time a new precinct was counted. Sherman arrived around 9:15 p.m. with his wife at his side. He spoke to Newscenter 11, saying the state has change in its future.
“I view the state differently than David does. I don’t look at the state and see problems, I see a huge opportunity. It’s like a ball game that had the wrong coach, but massive talent on the bench,” Sherman tells Newscenter 11. “You go around the corner to The MAX museum and tell me there isn’t talent in the state. There’s massive talent in the state, but we just have the wrong people running it.”

I am encouraged that despite being outspent 3-1 we are in a virtual tie and headed into a runoff that we can win. I intend to make clear over the next few weeks why Mississippi would be better off with a lifelong Mississippian who will fight for us in the U.S. Senate.
