A video posted to social media by a liberal non-profit website in Louisiana on November 15 shows :18 seconds of Senator Hyde-Smith laughing and talking with supporters in Starkville, Mississippi. The video was published by Lamar White, Jr. of the Bayou Brief in Louisiana.

Hyde-Smith’s campaign released this statement on the video:

“Obviously Sen. Hyde-Smith was making a joke and clearly the video was selectively edited,” said Melissa Scallan, spokeswoman for the campaign. “Now the liberal media wants to talk about anything other than Mike Espy’s record of corruption and taking $750,000 – and lying about it – from an African dictator now charged with war crimes, including murder, rape and torture.”

The video has been running on social media claiming Hyde-Smith is for “voter suppression” in certain schools, however no context was provided as to which schools were being discussed.
