A bill still alive in the House would decrease the sales tax on motorcycles.
The bill, HB 288, was authored by Representative Byrd to amend current code section and reduce the sales tax on motorcycles to 5 percent.
The bill reads:
(n) Retail sales of motorcycles, as defined in Section 27-19-3, shall be taxed at the rate of five percent (5%).
This code section also includes the sales tax requirements for vehicles like tractors, machinery, and materials necessary for their repair. The bill was referred to the House Ways and Means committee in January and original action must be made by Wednesday, Feb 27.
