In a Daily Journal article, gubernatorial candidate Jim Hood earlier this week stated that he declined a proposed debate on WJTV because of the prior participation in other debates by Y’all Politics editor Alan Lange.
“…Hood said he had concerns about the WJTV debate he declined because it was to be immediately followed by a discussion panel that would feature a political commentator associated with the conservative-affiliated Y’all Politics.
He’s the guy sitting up there, one of the two, he’s sitting there spinning for the Republican Party.”
Lange has been involved in several events on WJTV over the last few months providing political analysis in advance of the 2019 election for their new show Mississippi Insight and multiple debates the network has hosted. He has appeared opposite of Millsaps College professor Dr. Nathan Schrader and Mississippi Today reporters Adam Ganucheau and Larrison Campbell. Schrader, Ganucheau and Campbell were not mentioned by Hood.
Previously, Hood had stated that he was prepared to debate “anytime, anywhere” and publicly chided his opponent, Tate Reeves, over debate scheduling issues.
Lange had not been officially invited to participate in the post-debate commentary for the proposed WJTV event.
