YP – Lawmakers unclear on what to expect in today’s called legislative session

Lawmakers have been told to be prepared to possibly work into the weekend once they reconvene on Thursday at 1pm, but most everyone under the Capitol Dome and those back home in their districts seem to be in the dark about what exactly will be contemplated.

While no draft legislation has been made publicly available, nor have any such bills been confirmed by House or Senate leadership, Y’all Politics has learned from members that the Legislature is likely to take up an Appropriations bill and possibly a Finance or Ways and Means bill over the next few days to address the COVID-19 emergency.

YP – Mississippi Tax Day deadline extended to July 15th to match Federal Deadline

The Mississippi Department of Revenue has extended the income tax filing deadline to July 15, 2020, according to a release sent via Twitter Wednesday morning.  This brings the state inline with the extended federal deadline, also set for July 15th.

The DOR had previously extended the deadline to May 15th out of concern for the state’s fiscal year end in June.

YP – City of Jackson will continue suspending dine in services through May 15

The capital city, Jackson, remains under an extended stay-at-home order per Mayor Chokwe Lumumba. This week, Reeves announced that restaurants could reopen dine-in services under restrictions and social distancing guidelines, but that won’t be happening for Jackson eateries.

Mayor Lumumba has issued a stay-at-home order to last until May 15. In the order, City Hall, non-essential city offices, city owned or leased facilities will also stay closed as people continue working remotely. A number of Jackson events have also been postponed until further notice.
