The Mississippi Freedom Caucus, comprised of five members in the state House of Representatives, issued a release critical of the Magnolia State’s federal delegation over their votes for the recent COVID-19 relief and omnibus government spending package passed by Congress last week.

“Mississippi’s Senators and Representatives in DC (except for Rep. Trent Kelly) have failed the people of Mississippi,” the release states. “They have abandoned the conservative principles for which the people elected them to uphold, and have sold our children’s future and the stability of our nation for the fleeting approval of Democrats and liberals. The Mississippi Freedom Caucus is disappointed in their actions and their lack of understanding of basic conservative principles.”

Members of the Freedom Caucus are Republican state representatives Chris Brown (HD 20), Dana Criswell (HD 6), Dan Eubanks (HD 25), Steve Hopkins (HD 7), and Brady Williamson (HD 10).

The groups says that continually increasing the national debt places a greater burden on future generations and endangers their ability to live and enjoy the freedoms and liberties that we hold so dear, adding that they are “saddened to see our political leaders take a sharp turn into the abyss of debt that will only lead to economic disaster.”

The Mississippi Freedom Caucus was started by individuals who believe in the conservative principles that made this nation great. We believe in limited government, self-reliance, and lower taxes. We understand as government grows larger and takes more of your money, that you become less free, less independent, and less satisfied.

Last week the US congress passed what they call a “stimulus” bill. We are told that because of COVID-19 we must abandon our conservative principles and accept the liberal idea that government can continue printing money and dragging our nation deeper in debt without consequence. Conservatives have long held to the principle that government handouts should be reserved only for the most needy and those who are unable to work. We have held to the Biblical principle that self-worth and value, stem from reliance on God and personal achievement (not from reliance on government and politicians).

We have also argued that continually increasing our national debt places greater burden on future generations, and endangers their ability to live and enjoy the freedoms and liberties that we hold so dear. We have watched nations like Greece crumble under the debt that past generations uncaringly racked up.

As we watched the US Congress last week, we are saddened to see our political leaders take a sharp turn into the abyss of debt that will only lead to economic disaster. Because of their desire for praise, and their lack of concern for our children’s future, they’ve abandoned all conservative principles and voting overwhelmingly to send “free” money to citizens and drive our nation deeper into debt.

Under the guise of “stimulus”, our representatives in DC have included payments of up to $1800 to illegal immigrants, and billions upon billions to foreign nations. They are borrowing money and endangered our children’s future, as they fund museums, give money to billionaire Bill Gates, and continue to empower themselves at the expense of our future.

Mississippi’s Senators and Representatives in DC (except for Rep. Trent Kelly) have failed the people of Mississippi. They have abandoned the conservative principles for which the people elected them to uphold, and have sold our children’s future and the stability of our nation for the fleeting approval of Democrats and liberals.

The Mississippi Freedom Caucus is disappointed in their actions and their lack of understanding of basic conservative principles.

It is time that the people of Mississippi (and our nation), defend our destiny and take back our great republic from these self-serving politicians.
