A federal judge’s order that Mississippi voters show identification in future elections, as well as his ruling that the state’s open-primary system is unconstitutional, may get a second look by a higher court.

The Democratic Party, the NAACP and Attorney General Jim Hood are asking the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to review the order by U.S. District Judge Allen Pepper. Pepper’s ruling came as a result of a lawsuit filed by Democratic Party officials seeking to block non-Democrats from voting in their primaries.
