Friday night’s debate notwithstanding, the U.S. Senate race between former Democratic Gov. Ronnie Musgrove and Republican interim U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker has been about as muddy and bloody as any campaign in recent memory in this state.

Both the Democratic and Republican senatorial campaign committee, several outside third party groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Associated Builders And Contractors’ Free Enterprise Alliance, Mississippians For Employee Freedom and the two campaigns have hijacked the TV airwaves and buried the voters in an avalanche of ominous attack ads.
