A Vote for Change the N.C.A.A. Should Heed

President-elect Barack Obama struck a nerve when he called for an eight-team college football playoff to decide the national champion. The proposal drew varied reactions.
“I actually laughed out loud,” Grant Teaff, the executive director of the American Football Coaches Association, said during a telephone interview when asked about what Obama said last month on “60 Minutes” and on “Monday Night Football.”

He meant no disrespect, Teaff said, but felt that Obama, like so many fans of college football, had no idea of the complexity in formulating a playoff.
