Mississippi actress aims to spark state flag debate

JACKSON, Miss. —Mississippi native and “Quantico” actress Aunjanue Ellis is taking a conversation about the state flag from Jackson to Washington, D.C.

“We want to invite a national discussion about this issue because we feel very strongly that it’s not just a Mississippi issue, that it is an American issue. We are American citizens, not just Mississippi citizens,” Ellis said during an interview Thursday at the 16 WAPT studios.

Ellis, an outspoken opponent to the Mississippi state flag, is hosting a discussion about race at 6 p.m. Thursday at Smith Robertson Museum and Cultural Center at 528 Bloom St. in Jackson. She is also helping to organize the “Take It Down America” rally Tuesday at the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.
