Adjutant General Collins reflects on years leading National Guard

Maj. Gen. Augustus Collins is retiring Aug. 31 after 35 years in the U.S. Army and 4 1/2 years as adjutant general.

He was appointed in January 2012 by Gov. Phil Bryant as the state’s first African-American adjutant general. …

…He added, “we still have all of our Apache (helicopters), we still have our KC-135’s up in Meridian, the (155th) is again, the premiere armored brigade combat team in the National Guard.”

Brig. Gen. Janson D. Boyles of Jackson will take over as adjutant general on Sept. 1.
