After a storm, ice is more than ‘comfort’

No doubt, people do need to be prepare themselves for a major hurricane. Plus, FEMA’s no-ice pledge could encourage more coastal residents to evacuate.

On the other hand, as U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor, D-Miss., points out, people who have ice can stay at home and feed themselves rather than relying on shelters, emergency kitchens or Meals-Ready-To-Eat distributions.

The Sun Herald newspaper in Biloxi quoted Rep. Taylor as calling FEMA “a bunch of buttheads.” It’s a crude sentiment, but at the same time, it would be hard to fault the congressman for speaking the obvious.
