TUSCALOOSA — Yep. There he was. Anthony Grant. Saw him with my own two eyes. He wore a red tie and stood at a podium inside the Mal Moore Administration Building on the University of Alabama campus. He wasn’t visiting. He was making as impressive an opening statement as any Alabama coach I’ve seen introduced in that room, in that building, on this campus.
Grant mixed a sense of purpose with a sense of humor, a clear vision of where this program can go and an honest appreciation for where it’s been, a little of Nick Saban’s intensity and a lot of Gene Stallings’ humility.
And when he came off the podium, after closing with a raised fist and a “Roll Tide!” that sounded anything but forced, his embrace with Wendell Hudson was the picture that spoke a thousand words.
