Redistricting: Status quo of inequity

There was absolutely no legitimate reason for the Legislature not to complete redistricting. And, there was no reason for a federal court panel to allow this procrastination – solely for political purposes – to continue.

That basically throws one-person, one-vote standards out the window and raises a whole new set of problems next year.

Will lawmakers magically come together and agree on a new plan? (Not likely.) Will lawmakers serve a full term under the old district lines? (After all, the constitution says lawmakers are elected for four years.) Will one of the many parties file a new lawsuit seeking special elections in 2012? (There is certainly basis for doing so and that would require expensive special elections.)
