JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) – Attorney General Jim Hood will have a Republican challenger. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst has confirmed with WLBT that he will file qualifying papers at the Republican Party Friday.
Today is Hurst’s last day at the U.S. Attorney’s office. He has been in that position since 2006.
He was one of the prosecutors assigned to the corruption case involving former Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Chris Epps. He spoke to the media leaving the federal courthouse following Epps guilty plea Wednesday.
