Local club owners got to weigh in publicly Wednesday on a proposed uniform-closing ordinance being considered by Jackson officials.

The council’s Planning Committee discussed a change that would close all bars and nightclubs at 2 a.m. but took no action.

The owner of Grown Folks on Medgar Evers Boulevard said he disagrees with the proposal.

“You shouldn’t punish responsible businesses who have never had a problem because of whatever’s going at one or two places, just like you can’t put everyone in jail because one person committed a murder,” Deetra Jones-Kennebrew said. Grown Folks is one of dozens of nightclubs that would be affected by the ordinance change.
