Lawmakers filibuster over airport, gay marriage bills

Legislative Black Caucus members, Hinds County delegates and other Democratic lawmakers on Tuesday began filibustering — forcing all bills be read aloud in their entirety and demanding roll call votes and holding passed bills on motions to reconsider.

The move in the House is reportedly over the survival of a Senate bill to take control over the Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport from the city and give it to a regional board…

…The filibuster in the Senate, led by Sens. Barbara Blackmon, D-Canton, and Debbie Dawkins, D-Pass Christian, is reportedly over House Bill 1523 passing in a Senate judiciary committee on Tuesday’s deadline. The bill states that government officials and private business owners couldn’t be punished for acting on religious beliefs that marriage should be only between a man and a woman.
