BOBBY HARRISON: An accurate chronology measures conservative control

Of course, the larger truth is that regardless of party label, it has been conservatives who have controlled Mississippi politics almost without interruption for much of the state’s history.

The Democratic Party of today is nothing like the party that had near total domination of the state from the end of Reconstruction until the Republicans began a slow, but then speedy ascendance in the 1970s and 1980s.

Those Democrats, like many Republicans of today, lamented numerous federal court rulings and in general cursed the overreach of the federal government.

The bottom line, as has been stated before from this platform, is that Republicans are in charge in Mississippi and have been for some time, but the conservatives have been in charge much longer.
