Twenty-two senators sided with the governor, enough to sustain his veto of House Bill 803. Twenty-eight senators voted to override the veto.
“You need to get some asbestos underwear, cause somebody is gonna light up your rear end on this one,” said Hyde-Smith, a Democrat from Brookhaven.
But Sen. Johnny Walls, D-Greenville, said he changed his initial support of the bill after speaking with the governor.
“My constituents need jobs. They need Nissan,” he said.
