Bryant donating 2011 acting-governor pay to charities

JACKSON, Miss. — A spokesman says Mississippi Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant will donate his acting-governor pay for the first three months of this year to yet-unspecified charities. That’s $3,145 after taxes.

Spokesman Mick Bullock says Bryant sent a Feb. 9 letter to the state Department of Finance and Administration asking it to stop paying him extra when Gov. Haley Barbour is out of state.

State law requires extra pay for the person who’s acting governor. That’s usually the lieutenant governor.
