Bulldogs topped by Furman, travel to Mississippi State for SEC matchup on Friday

Pitching continues to be a weak point for the Georgia Bulldogs. Leftie freshman Blake Dieterich, who picked up the loss to go to 0-2, started the game for UGA, but was pulled after three, giving up three runs on five hits, no walks and four strikeouts. Senior righthander Steve Esmonde was brought in and allowed another run in his 1.1 innings. Sophomore leftie Chase Hawkins came into the game in the fifth, with the Paladins leading the Diamond Dogs 4-0. It was all downhill from there, with Furman upping the score to 10-1 in the seventh and the Bulldogs relief team, including Ben Cornwell, John Herman, Justin Earls and Cecil Tanner, unable to stop the carnage.
