Mississippi’s Cochran pursues fairness in flood-zone maps

Mississippi’s senior senator is weighing in on the controversial topic of updating flood maps, urging federal agencies to work more closely with local communities.

“I hope FEMA and the Army Corps understand that we expect improved interaction with local communities,” Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., said after meeting last week with officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Corps of Engineers.

“The concerns we have in Mississippi about the flood map process are legitimate and need to be addressed as such.”
