Republican Sen. Thad Cochran said Obama’s speech was “eloquent and showed a lot of vision.” He attended the inauguration day luncheon with Obama and first lady Michelle Obama in the Capitol’s Statuary Hall.

Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree, a Democrat, his two adult daughters and son-in-law had choice swearing-in seats near several VIPs, including actor Michael J. Fox and singer Diana Ross’ daughter, Tracee Ellis Ross.

The Petal High School Marching Band was the only representative from Mississippi in the inaugural parade.

Mississippians had plenty of parties and events to attend.

Fourth District Rep. Gene Taylor, a Democrat, hosted an informal party for visiting Mississippians at the Tune Inn, a popular bar on Capitol Hill.
