Health-care ruling may hurt exchange

Mississippi Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney says the U.S. Supreme Court decision on the national health-care law could have unfavorable effects on Mississippi if a key mandate is struck down.

Chaney, a Republican, said he hopes the U.S. Supreme Court will not invalidate a clause that requires insurance companies to provide pre-existing condition coverage.

“It would create some real instability in the market because insurance companies wouldn’t be able to set rates if some pre-existing conditions are covered and others aren’t,” Chaney said.
