LAUREL — Many of our countrymen have become too impatient, often motivated by envy, and strangely addicted to instant gratification. It seems their collective intention is to have the government subsidize every imaginable whim and comfort.
Such is the motivation behind their demands of more federal services and projects, even as expenditures exceed revenues.
In response, federal politicians have engaged in reckless deficit spending by selling treasury bills and bonds, thereby running up impossibly large debts. Even worse, the government often prints money so that Congress can give to individuals what they desire but cannot afford.
