Absentee ballot reform sought

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann has high hopes a new report on increased absentee voting trends will spark talk of reform.

The report, conducted by his office and released Thursday, concludes absentee voting has been on the rise in Mississippi since 2007. During last year’s election season, 22 counties in the primary election and 13 counties in the general election had at least 10 percent of total votes cast via absentee ballot.

In addition, the report noted inconsistencies “from county to county and from precinct to precinct.”
