Federal fix looms without map plan

It’s unclear when lawmakers will go home as the fight continues over how to redraw House and Senate districts to reflect population changes over the last decade.

Efforts were afoot Tuesday to maneuver a last-ditch vote on maps in the Republican-controlled Senate, which previously turned down the map drawn by Democrats in the House.

The Democratic House leadership is expected to push another vote today on the maps in a vehicle that would then go to the Senate floor for consideration – if Senate Rules Committee Chairman Billy Hewes allows a vote. “I haven’t made that decision yet,” said Hewes, R-Gulfport.
