CL – Return Gulf oil spill funds to region

Mississippi’s U.S. Sens. Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker have signed on to bipartisan legislation that would help the Gulf Coast recover from the BP oil spill.

While both Sens. Cochran and Wicker have strong conservative rec ords, they are joined by a coalition of environmental groups in calling for BP oil fines to be directed to rebuild the Coast region, rather than allowing the penalties to go into the general fund where Congress can spend it on other issues.

Those groups include a who’s who of environmental organizations, including: Environmental Defense Fund, National Audubon Society, National Wildlife Federation, The Nature Conservancy, Ocean Conservancy and Oxfam America, among others
