CL – State employees need Personnel Board

Former Gov. Haley Barbour tried it eight years ago, and now Gov. Phil Bryant is trying, too: Removing Personnel Board protections of public employees.

The Republican governors are taking the stance under the guise of saving taxpayers money. But there is cost to taxpayers if state government professional practices give way to a political spoils system.

Some may not remember back to when Barbour was first elected, one of his first efforts was to dismantle state Personnel Board protections of state agencies.
