$8.6M to be spread among 32 Mississippi airports for improvements

Federal grants ranging from $38,000 to almost $3 million will help 32 Mississippi airports improve operational safety and efficiency.

U.S. Sens. Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker announced the funding.

Jackson-Evers International Airport is the big winner. The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority will receive $2,951,070 for terminal building improvements, including replacement passenger boarding bridges

Other metro-area airports receiving a piece of the $8.6 million from the Department of Transportation’s Airport Improvement Program are:

Hawkins Field, Jackson Municipal Airport Authority – $300,000 for airfield guidance sign installation.

Bruce Campbell Field, Madison – $100,684 for airfield guidance sign installation and an airport master plan update study.
“These grants, large and small, will advance safety and overall efficiency at local airport facilities. In doing so, these projects will help our counties and cities offer aviation services that are important for expanding economic development,” Cochran said in a news release.
